A native of Buffalo, NY, Mary Buergin received her degree in Fine Arts from Buffalo State College with various post graduate courses in Design and Fashion Illustration. She began her career working as an illustrator for an advertising agency in Buffalo. She also worked as a fashion illustrator and ran her own interior design company for ten years, doing both commercial and residential design. Mary moved to NH in 1992. She began working as an artist for a furniture company, creating hundreds of pieces of original hand painted furniture, which can be seen in shops and homes all across the northeast. She now focuses primarily on landscape painting in oils and pastels. She feels the purpose of her painting is not to give the viewer "information" about the scene she is painting, but to convey the emotion that the scene creates. "When looking at a landscape, an artist may be more sensitive to subtle colors, lighting, mood and an inherent composition. When I feel I have captured this vision, I consider the work to be a success. I choose my subjects by what captivates me. Sometimes I see a scene that just delights me and I will find myself lost in the lighting or the mood. These are the scenes that I want to capture...to share with others so that they too can see something they may not have had the opportunity to see".
Buergin exhibits in national, regional and local shows, juried competitions and gallery shows. Her work has been recognized through many awards and is included in numerous private and public collections throughout the United States and Europe. She was featured in the December '08 issue of American Artist Magazine.
